Waiting for Our Souls

Picture of a stream in a forestThere is a story that shows up in many places. It's about a traveler who was on safari. He had brought his maps, timetables, and tents. Porters from a local tribe were carrying his cumbersome supplies.

Life Doesn't Have a Remote

Picture of big remote controlOn our way to church there is a marquee that has short sayings and thoughts on it. This one, here at the beginning of the year, caught my attention.

Life doesn't have a remote
so get up and
change it yourself

Fourth Sunday of Advent - Love

Four candles that are lighted with a taller lighted candle and the word ChristmasOn the fourth Sunday of Advent, we are reminded of God's love. Or maybe that should be Love, with a capital "L". It was God's Love, Jesus Christ, that came into our world so many years ago. We didn't deserve Him. We weren't ready for Him. When He came, we crucified Him. But still God's Love came into our world.

Third Sunday of Advent - Joy

Three candles with the word JoyThe third Sunday of Advent talks about joy. Sometimes I think we get joy mixed up with happiness. Happiness is an emotion that we feel when everything is working the way we think it should. Then we're happy.

Second Sunday of Advent - Peace

Two candles of Advent with the word PeacePeace is perhaps the most desired focus in our lives, yet the one thing that seems to be most elusive in our world.

On this Sunday of Advent, we remember that God became man in Jesus Christ to bring peace into our world and our individual lives.

First Sunday of Advent

One lighted candle with the word HopeSunday, November 27, is the first Sunday of Advent. For the church, it's the beginning of the Christmas season. Each of the Sundays has a different theme. The first weeks theme is hope.

One of my favorite Christmas carols is "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." As the song starts, it sounds soulful and almost sad.

Blessings and Promises

Laura Story wrote the song, Blessings, which Renee sang a couple of weeks ago. It is one of my current favorites. I have a group of current favorites so I can change them out from time to time. (If you'd like to hear the story behind the song, check Laura's blog.)

Round Tuit

I get very frustrated with myself from time to time. There are things I know I need to do, and I know they are important, and I know they need to be done. But I keep waiting... for something. I don't know. Maybe I'm waiting to get a round tuit.

I need to begin eating better. But not today. I'll do that when I get a round tuit.
