ABC's of Becoming a Christian
Beginning a relationship with God is important and exciting! It also isn't too hard to understand. Here are the ABCs of becoming a Christian.
A - Admit to God and to yourself that you are a sinner, that your sin separates you from God, and that there is nothing you can do to save yourself. Sin is doing our own thing instead of what God asks us to do. Look at what the Bible says about sin in your life.
For all of us have sinned and all of us have fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
For the wages of sin is death (spiritual and physical). (Romans 6:23)
B - Believe that Jesus Christ is God, that he died on the cross to forgive you of your sins, and that He rose from the dead to give you eternal life. The Bible tells us what Jesus did for us.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
C - Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and commit to following Him.Â
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:9-10, 13)
But as many as receive Jesus Christ, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to all those who believe in His name! (John 1:12)
You can pray and receive Jesus as you Savior right now. Here is a simple prayer you can repeat to help you do that.
Dear God, Today, I admit to You and to myself that I am a sinner and that has kept me from knowing You. I believe that You sent Jesus to die in my place for my sins. I confess to you that I believe that Jesus has forgiven my sins, and I commit to live the life You have for me to live. Amen.
If you prayed this simple prayer, then you can rest assured that God has forgiven you of all your sins. God has made you a new creature in Christ Jesus. The old is gone. The new has come.
